Documentary iPad app
Who Killed Gandhi?
Launches on the iTunes Store
24 September 2013 (Toronto) – Interactive iPad app Who Killed Gandhi? launches in the iTunes app store today leading up to the September 30th VisionTV premiere of the associated documentary, and the International Day of Non-Violence, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on October 2nd.
The identity of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin on January 30, 1948 has always been known. Many argue that there were many people behind the scenes pulling the trigger. A companion piece to the documentary, the iPad app is a historical interactive documentary retracing the intersecting paths of Gandhi, gun man Nathuram Godse and conspiracy mastermind Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
From the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in 1869 to the death of the assassin, users explore the questions: how did Gandhi die, and who was behind the assassination. Archival and original film, photography, animation, audio and maps take users from undivided India to England, France, South Africa, and back to India on a journey along the intersecting paths and clashing ideas of Gandhi, Savarkar and Godse, within the context of what was happening in mid-20th Century India and the world.
Who Killed Gandhi? iPad app is produced by Kelly Balon and Anand Ramayya with AWE Co.’s Ted Biggs & Srinivas Krishna and Ian Woods of Total Environment, in association with VIsionTV/ ZoomerMedia, and with the financial participation of Canada Media Fund POV Documentary Fund, and the Saskatchewan Film Employment Tax Credit.
